The Last Patriot by Brad ThorMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Yay! Another Scott Harvath novel. Pretty basic intrigue. CIA wetwork operative gone bad whose attempted hit sucks Scott Harvath back into the game of anti-terrorism. There are a couple of things that make this book rather relevant. First, the fact the the Us has decided (some will agree and disagree with me here) that fire can only be fought with fire. Terrorist do not follow the Marquis of Queensbury rules and we are doomed to fail in our fight if we attempt to extend the protection of our law to those undeserving of it. Second, this decision put the book and American policy in general into a gray area of law in which mistakes can and are made. By no means do I argue that the US has clean hands or has done no injustice. The third and most interesting in my opinion point is that the stance is taken that Islam and its practice has been subverted by the Saudi's, Wahhabists, etc in their interpretation of Sharia.
The book is set very well within the historical context and if you are Jeffersonian you will really enjoy the exploration of his work.
It also is quite interesting in its take on the final days and beliefs of the prophet Mohammed.
